SteelEye Technology Monday rolled out continuous data protection and multi-site replication capabilities for Linux shops.
The company’s SteelEye Data Replication for Linux v6 software now includes the ability to rewind data recovery to any point
in time and to support data replication to target devices across LANs or WANs.

“Any Point in Time Rewind’ lets users rewind data to a time before data corruption or loss occurred. It lets users mount replicated data and then move forward or backward through it via time stamps or other user-defined events. Data recovery is enabled via a wizard that guides users through building temporary data sets, and places those data sets back into service once they have been rebuilt.
SteelEye Data Replication, which runs on x86-based servers, protects data locally via continuous backup; remote data replication occurs asynchronously. Replication works in Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server environments.
The software competes with CA’s XOSoft technology and Radiant Data’s PeerFS.
These capabilities are also present in SteelEye’s Windows data protection software. SteelEye Data Replication costs $2,500 per server and $625 for annual support.
