As mobile Linux matures as a result of serious efforts from the biggest players (Motorola, Nokia, Vodafone, OSDL and others) the applications that are built on top of the OS become even more critical. What is being built as a truly unprecedented collaborative effort represents a platform where everything above it is visible value --value to carriers, operators, and consumers. At the end of the day, devices will be differentiated based on applications and without them, the Linux phone is only a smart open source brick.
